Outside, somebody hit the canopy, and there were building materials there for the whole time we were there. It was on the ground there for at least three weeks. Insurance covered it, but I think it was too high after the insurance ran out. It wasn’t worth staying there and paying that kind of money. They were very caring, they helped my husband -- making sure that he took his medications timely -- and I would give them a very good to excellent rating.
I think they allow that to go a little too long before it’s fixed. The housekeeping needs to keep her room clean and swept. It’s not that bad, they eventually caught up with it, but I think they’re shorthanded. Overall, I would say they’re still a pretty clean facility. Sometimes they run out of things too, like one time I saw the staff running out of trash bags and they didn’t have the solution to clean the tables.

It was extremely difficult to request a chest x-ray, etc. when it was obvious our loved one was suffering from a chest infection or pneumonia. There was an extremely long wait once the call button was pushed, likely due to lack of staffing. The food was horrific and was usually delivered whole , not following the mechanical soft , physician ordered preparation. When my family requested help from the front desk staff, nurses, or assistants, it was as though you are personally inconveniencing them and an annoyance. My family is tight-knit and believe in being each other’s advocate. A member of our family visited every day, and it was the epitome of stressful.

My brother has been in Otterbein SeniorLife Franklin for six months now. They have cottages on the outside of the place. You start there and you rent, and then when you progress and get where you can’t live alone, they take you in the big part of it. He went directly into the health side because he had more needs. The facility is old and looks nice, but they’re in the process of painting and remodeling. They lied to me, they showed us the room and he didn’t even get that room, and they told us it was somebody else who got it.

We went to the nurse's station to get a few questions answered about my father. As the nurses were sitting in the chairs directly on the opposite side of the counter, they did not acknowledge the presence. Once we asked a specific question the response was I am not his nurse. The facility smells of urine that cannot be masked by cleaning chemicals. I suggest you take tours of other facilities before choosing this one. My father was transported out of the building with a fever and pneumonia.
They were short-staffed, though, so their care was not too good. Sometimes you get good care and other times you get bad care. It was clean but there were times when it wasn’t. She got Covid there and when we changed rooms, there were feces right around the corner.
